Research

Analytics are of essential need not only for the pharmaceutical chemistry but for all fields of natural science. Our group for analytical research and development works with common analytical methods.

Proof of identification, content and purity of drugs need different analytical established methods. The validation of such methods and systems is one of the additional focuses of the analytical group. The procedure and the implementation of validation into practical work is done on special pilot substances. The interest lies on quanitative chromatographic methods like thin layer chromatography, gas chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography.

One special field of interest in pharmacy is the development and validation of pharmacopeial methods which have to be comprehensive and applicable world-wide at any time. We develop monographs for the Swiss and the European pharmacopeia and review already existing methods for feasibility and for adaption on up-to-date analytical methods.

Chiral identification and detection as part of purity testing should help improve drug quality.

  • Development of new strategies in order to solve analytical problems
  • Creation of new analytical procedures, especially combination of different methods for purity and stability-testing of lead structures, drug candidates and drugs
  • Metabolomic profiling of natural products
  • Physiological and pathophysiological biomarker identification
  • Development of monographs for the Pharmacopoeia Europaea and Helvetica.
  • All activities are in cooperation with other research groups at the IPW, industry and pharmacopeial authorities.
