Pharmaceutical Analytics

Our Research

Pharmaceutical analytics is the basis for drug safety and drug discovery. With state-of-the-art analytical techniques, we are looking for impurities in commercial available drugs and trying to uncover intentional adulteration. Another spotlight is set on new metabolomics strategies for target evaluation of traditional natural products.

Determination of cannabinoids in Cannabis sativa L. samples for recreational, medical, and forensic purposes

cannabis

An increasing demand for cannabis-derived products for recreational and medical use has led to the need for reliable and fast quantification of cannabinoids in hemp samples. In this paper from Zivovinovic et. al., the authors report the successful development of an accurate and broadly applicable RP-HPLC method coupled to a UV detector including an optimized extraction procedure for the separation and quantification of eight different cannabinoids.

Development of analytical procedure in a space beyond the rule of 5

The ever-growing need of drugs also capable of targeting protein-protein interaction and recent advances in peptide chemistry drives the use of peptides as drugs and potential active ingredients. Nevertheless, various questions about their analysis, purification, physicochemical characteristics and their associated properties such as membrane permeability are still unanswered. We use novel analytical methods to further deepen the understanding of physicochemical properties of synthetic peptides to ease their use as commerical drugs.
